Network Security Engineer – Fortinet SME (OT / Industrial Environments)
Location: Sydney (Mascot)
Hybrid: 3 days onsite
Contract: Initial 6 month contract with view to permanent

About the role
We are seeking a senior Network Security Engineer with strong Fortinet and OT (Operational Technology) experience to join a high-performing professional services team. You will design and deliver customer-facing network and security solutions for a major enterprise client, with a strong focus on OT and industrial environments.
This role is suited to a senior engineer who is confident in a consulting environment, enjoys working directly with clients, and can translate business requirements into secure, practical network solutions.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver customer-facing network and security solutions across enterprise and OT environments
- Act as a Fortinet subject matter expert across firewalls and security platforms, including policy, configuration, optimisation and upgrades
- Engage directly with clients to understand business needs and translate them into technical designs and implementation plans
- Support and enhance network and security services within OT environments such as industrial sites, critical infrastructure, manufacturing and utilities
- Lead and contribute to project delivery including migrations, upgrades, hardening and network segmentation
- Collaborate with senior engineers, architects and business stakeholders to define and embed best practice for Fortinet and OT security
- Produce clear documentation, design artefacts, runbooks and standards for both OT and IT network environments
About you
- Strong hands-on experience with Fortinet firewalls and security solutions such as FortiGate (FortiManager and FortiAnalyzer experience highly regarded)
- Proven experience in a consultancy or professional services environment in a client-facing role
- Comfortable presenting to and working with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Experience designing, supporting or securing OT and industrial networks (for example SCADA, PLC, ICS environments)
- Solid understanding of core routing and switching concepts, with Cisco experience highly regarded
- Background working in enterprise or critical infrastructure environments
- Strong understanding of network security principles including segmentation, remote access, VPNs, IDS/IPS and hardening
- Motivated to stay current with Fortinet and OT security best practices and pursue certifications such as Fortinet NSE and Cisco or security-focused certifications
